medication question...

So I have psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis (auto-immune disorders). I was on methotrexate a few years ago, but then stopped because of liver problems. My doctor has done lots of blood work since then, and wants me to start again, but this time apparently in injection form (I can't think of any other reason for a "Teaching appointment," pills are genearlly really easy to understand, but he didn't make the injection part clear at the appointment). I wasn't aware it was available in injection form, but am willing to do it. WebMD has a page on the drug, but doesn't talk about the differentiation between pill and injection. Is there really any big difference besides the delivery form? or am I making to big of a deal of this?

A question of cholesterol....

I'm asking a question for a male friend of mine. He has very high cholesterol, and the medication his doctor has him on isn't working like he'd hoped. Are there more natural ways he can lower his cholesterol without resorting to trying a lot of medicines that may also not work? Thanks if you can help.

Male participants needed for body image research

Dear all,

I'm a 3rd year DPsych student from Victoria University, Australia.

I would like to invite you (if male and above 18) to participate in an online research on male body image. (If you are female, please pass this on to your male friends.)

An Internet Study: The relationships between men's self-reported physical attributes, body image, self-esteem and internet dating.

There has been quite a lot of research conducted on women's body image and we have a reasonable understanding of the types of factors that impact on women's body image and that ultimately lead to disorders like Anorexia and Bulimia Nervosa. However, we know very little about men's body image and the factors that impinge on the way males think about their bodies. Consequently we also know very little about how this impacts on men's health.

Do you want to do something about it?

If so, you are invited to take part in a research project that will focus exclusively on men's body image. Previous research has highlighted the impact of men's physical attributes on body image and how men perceive their own body. The purpose of this study is to further explore the relationship between physical qualities of men, their body image and self-esteem, using an Internet sample.

All men above the age of 18, who have at least basic literacy in English, are invited to participate in this study. If possible, please have a tape measure ready.

The questionnaire consists of 62 mostly multiple-choice questions and should take approximately 15 minutes to complete. Your responses will remain anonymous and no identifying information will be collected. You are free to withdraw from this study at any time.

If you understand the information stated above and would like to participate in this study, please click on the link below:

Thank you in advance for your time and input.

Pills Worth Popping

by Julie Hanus

You eat a balanced diet, for the most part. You chomp on five nutritious servings of ripe fruits and cruciferous veggies every day—so you’re OK on the vitamins and minerals front, right? Not necessarily, reports the Ecologist (March 2008). In recent years, the soil in which farmers grow our foods has become so depleted of basic nutrients that produce simply isn’t as nourishing as it used to be.Read more...Collapse )

Summer Health and Safety Tips

It's Summer! And I would be enjoying it if I weren't suffering from stomach flu and having to go to work. But oh well...

And in that vein, I found the CDC Men's Summer Health and Safety Tips for your reading pleasure. There is also Camping Health and Safety Tips should any of you be going camping this summer.

Some of it goes well beyond summertime (like natural disaster preparedness & pet health), but I guess they are just taking advantage of the moment to get some added tips in there?
